When Marketing Help Turns Into a Self-Discovery Quest
What a journey! When I started receiving coaching I thought I was asking for help with marketing my business and getting more clients but little did I know I was continuing the journey in finding myself again.
I think we are all on that journey just at different point’s on our individual paths.
To represent this concept, I often share this meme I created for myself and my clients.
How do I describe my journey in finding myself?
Well I guess it started with collaboration and connection.
🎤Private Practice, Podcasts, and Learning the Hard Way
I was on the solopreneur journey 10 years ago as I started my private practice, I studied numerous blog posts and listened to what felt like hundreds of podcast episodes, with attempting to learn about how to grow my business.
I also started networking with local therapists. Little did I know that this simple task would be a game changer. More on that…
Burnout, TL;DRs, and Finding My People
Fast forward to today and my therapy private practice is sustainable and I barely have to market it. You’d think I’d be satisfied—and I am doing fine and am glad for that success.
But I wanted more.
I wanted more financial freedom, more personal freedom, and more creative freedom.
I couldn’t start my second business until my doctorate was finished as my dissertation chair said it would be a conflict of interest and might influence my results, as I was studying compassion fatigue. So I didn’t really market it until after I finished.
Anyway, TL;DR. (By the way, check out my post about TL;DR’s here).
Anywho, I talk a bit about the earlier part of my business coaching business here. I won’t bore you with the details but here’s a TL;DR summary:
I felt stuck, overwhelmed, and was spinning my wheels in the social media spiral and was fed up to the point of reaching out to one of my fabulous business besties
-who then introduced me to one of the best humans on the planet,.
From Funnel Hacking to Be a Blessing Marketing
I went to his workshop about Be a Blessing Marketing. Here’s a little intro to that concept:
This really resonated. I had tried a lot of different things—funnel hacking, ridiculously expensive coaching programs, posting to no one on Facebook, IG, and all the platforms.
I went to a workshop, learned about this Be a Blessing concept and began applying it.
Over time, I moved to Substack, refined my blogging, and met a ton of interesting, talented, and wildly creative people.
Those people didn’t just inspire me—they helped shape my path forward.
🎉Local Networking, Laura Zane, and Business Besties
Last Saturday, Laura Zane and I attended a local networking event north of us.
As a neurodivergent introvert, it took me a while to adjust to the environment, but everyone was so inviting and kind.
Laura and I had a blast!
She also wrote a post about this so check that out here. It’s really good and it’s about how us neurodivergent online therapists need business besties to help us through all the things. Also check out her business coaching biz coaching for empaths.
We don’t just grow a brand—we grow back into ourselves. And sometimes, business besties and local networking events help us remember we’re allowed to take up space, be messy, and have fun along the way.
🎸 Random: Bringing the Music Back
I also shared how I stopped playing music for a long time—too busy, too professional, too stressed.
But now?
🎸 I keep a guitar in my office.
🎹 I play a little keyboard.
🎧 I even created 3 songs for my podcast using a music production app.
There’s something healing in making things again.
