Ditching Fear, Taking Micro Steps, and Diversifying Income

A workshop hangout replay

Notice, this replay will only be available for a few days, so check it out! Then it moves behind the paywall.

It took me way too long to edit this—my apologies! We recorded this back in early January, but I’m excited to finally share it with you.

We all want more freedom—freedom from financial stress, rigid schedules, and outdated industry norms. That’s exactly what we explored in the latest Diversify Income Hangout with

from the Solopreneur Success Stack and an amazing group of solopreneurs—including a few of us therapists.

As therapists, we’re trained to follow structured paths, but stepping into entrepreneurship requires a mindset shift. One major takeaway?

Business growth isn’t about having the perfect plan—it’s about taking the next smallest step.

The Fear of Showing Up (03:15)

Scott shared some wisdom about overcoming the fear of putting yourself out there:

The fear of showing up is only solved by showing up.

Boom. That one hit.

Instead of waiting for the perfect offer, the perfect niche, or the perfect website, just start. Experiment. Engage. Build relationships.

For many of us, the fear of being seen is real. But as Angie pointed out at 00:22:14:

I wouldn’t even be here if people I admire hadn’t put themselves out there.

That’s a reminder we all need—visibility isn’t about perfection; it’s about connection.

The Power of Constraints: Turning Limits Into Leverage (9:50 and 40:00)

We often think of constraints—limited time, energy, imposter syndrome, self-doubt—as barriers. But what if they were actually tools for creativity?

🔥 Example: Another person shared how having only 5 hours a week for business forced them to cut the fluff and focus on high-impact actions. Instead of spending months perfecting a website, they booked clients through conversations and simple offers.

👉 Lesson learned? Constraints force clarity.
If you only had 30 minutes today (or Monday cuz it’s a weekend) to move your business forward, what would you do? Do that first.

Raise the Floor, Not the Ceiling (30:00ish)

Another big insight?

Instead of constantly chasing bigger wins, focus on improving your worst days.

Scott explained it best using a basketball analogy:

If your worst free throw percentage was 25%, can you raise it to 30%?
You don’t have to beat your best—you just have to make your worst days better.

If your lowest-performing effort improves, your overall success skyrockets.

✅ Can’t commit to posting on social media daily? Start with once a week and be consistent.
✅ Not ready for a full sales page? Write a simple post explaining what you offer.
✅ Feel overwhelmed by email marketing? Send one email—just one.

(I did this the other day because I felt overwhelmed. I sent one email and that was enough!)

📌 Check out this clip from

from our episode where he talks about raising the floor and what that means.

Explore vs. Exploit: When to Try vs. When to Double Down (38:59)

Another key topic we tackled was knowing when to explore new ideas vs. when to exploit what’s already working.

  • Exploring → Testing new offers, experimenting with messaging, trying different marketing approaches.

  • Exploiting → Doubling down on what’s already working (aka, doing more of what brings in clients!).

💡 Takeaway: If something is working—don’t stop! You don’t always need to reinvent the wheel. Improve the wheel you already have.

(I talked more about this in our workshop on Friday and in this post!)

Turn Fear Into a Compass (51:00)

One statement from the conversation really hit me:

Turn fear into a compass—it means the direction is meaningful.

It’s so easy to think fear is a sign to stop. But what if it’s actually a signpost telling us we’re onto something important?

Reserve Clause, Zestborometer, & CASE System (53:34)

Scott shared:

Reality kicks our butts, so we adjust. We’re not doing the wrong thing, we’re just doing the thing wrong.

It’s about iteration, not perfection. Learning what works, adjusting what doesn’t, and staying in the game.

Data: Love It or Hate It, It Closes the Gap (57:00 & 59:16)

🙋‍♀️ Confession: I hate collecting data. But as we talked about in this conversation, it’s the key to closing the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

Simplify your data collection system.

Don’t overthink it. Track one thing at a time. What’s one metric you can track right now that would give you insight into what’s working?

For Therapists: You Already Know How to Build a Successful Business (1:00:00)

This one is HUGE:

For therapists, we already know how to build successful businesses. What are the things we did that made those successful, and how can we apply them to our side hustles or second businesses?

Marketing for therapy is different from marketing coaching.

often says:

Problem awareness is a piece of this. Therapy clients already know they need therapy. But coaching clients don’t always know they need coaching.

This means part of our job is educating people on what coaching actually does.

Who Are You in Marketing? (1:04:10)

Don't market in a way that feels wrong to you.

Don’t like social media? You don’t have to use it.
Hate live videos? Do written content instead.
Love in-person networking? Focus there.

You get to build a business in a way that fits YOU.

Building a Side Hustle as a Therapist (1:12:50)

We also talked about the struggle of building a business as a therapist—balancing:

💡 Interests
🎨 Creativity
💼 Business strategy

It’s a lot. But what if instead of trying to separate them, we learned to integrate them into a business model that actually works for us?

Check out some of my recent podcast episodes for some examples on creativity and business and that they can work together!
