Telling Your Story – Building Trust and Connection
Day 8 of Clarity & Creativity
Welcome to Day 8 of 12 Days of Clarity & Creativity! Today, we’re diving into the power of storytelling. Whether you’re a therapist, coach, creative, or business nerd, your story has the potential to inspire trust, foster connections, and set you apart in your field.
Why Your Story Matters
People connect with people, not just businesses or services. Sharing your story builds a bridge between you and your audience, helping them see the person behind the work. It shows authenticity, vulnerability, and relatability—all key ingredients for trust.
When I started defining better who I was and who I was in my business, my story became more and more evident. As I uncovered my own story it unfolded more and more and led me to study trauma more deeply which led me to understanding therapists better through my own journey as a healer and then I studied compassion fatigue and so on.
I talked about my story in a few posts: Beautiful Neurodivergence, in Dear Therapist and in my starting your private practice course which are available in the paywalled section of my blog. I talk about my story a bit throughout all of my posts as well.
In Sharing About Your Own Story, Think About This:
What experiences brought you to your current work?
How has your journey shaped the unique way you serve your clients or audience?
What values drive your work, and how can they resonate with others?
When you share your story, you humanize your work. You’re not just another therapist, coach, or creative—you’re someone with a mission and a message.
3 Steps to Start Sharing Your Story
Define Your “Why”
Ask yourself why you do what you do. Your “why” is the foundation of your story—it’s what motivates you and draws people in.Embrace Imperfection
Sharing struggles and setbacks makes your story relatable. No one connects with perfection; they connect with perseverance.Make It About Them
While your story is about you, it’s told for your audience. How can your experiences inspire, guide, or help them?
