Finding Interest – Motivation – Focus in Business
Day 10 of Clarity & Creativity
Welcome to Day 10 of 12 Days of Clarity & Creativity!
Today, we’re tackling the challenge of maintaining focus in a world full of distractions. Whether you’re managing multiple businesses, building a side hustle, or simply navigating the demands of everyday life, connecting your interest and maintaining a level of focus and motivation are important in progressing toward your goals.
Value > Interest > Motivation > Focus
Focus isn’t just about productivity—it’s about directing your energy toward what truly matters. Even the best-laid plans can feel chaotic and unmanageable without focus. However, maintaining focus becomes challenging without genuine interest and motivation. When you’re fully engaged, though, you can:
Achieve more and make the most of your time.
Experience a greater sense of accomplishment.
Reduce stress by cutting out unnecessary tasks.
That said, it’s difficult to focus if there’s little to no interest or a lack of clear reasoning behind the task. A shift in perspective can help spark interest by showing how the task supports your bigger goals or accelerates your path to success. Connecting mundane tasks to a larger purpose can increase interested & motivation and, in turn, improve focus. Mindset plays a big role here—building motivation starts with seeing the value in what you’re doing.
Barriers to Focus
Before diving into strategies, let’s explore some common barriers to focus:
Overwhelm: Trying to juggle too many tasks at once.
Distractions: Social media, emails, and countless shiny objects vying for attention.
Lack of Clear Goals: Without a clear roadmap, it’s easy to drift aimlessly.
Lack of Inspiration: When we’re not inspired or interested, tasks feel like a slog.
Hyperfocusing on the Wrong Things:* Spending energy on tasks that don’t yield meaningful results.
For example, I used to spend too much time trying to make Instagram work for me. But after realizing it wasn’t effective, I decided to stop wasting my time. Now, I focus on what’s working instead of forcing what isn’t.
